A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height overall consisting of two white enamel swords, hilted gold, crossed saltirewise and surmounted at the center by a purple globe with gold gridlines; overall a vertical gold torch, flaming red, surmounted at the shaft by a white enamel cartouche bearing a blue fleur-de-lis on a yellow enamel disk and all extending beyond the edge of a red circular scroll inscribed "FREEDOM, WISDOM, INTEGRITY" in gold letters in the upper divided areas between the crossed swords.
Purple and white are the colors used for Civil Affairs. The swords together with the white scroll signify the Group's military government and civil affairs mission in support of post combat military operations. The torch, indicative of knowledge, refers to the language capabilities and comprehension of legal systems necessary for effective area administration. The fleur-de-lis on the yellow disk, taken from the flag of the city of St. Louis, refers to the home area of the organization.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 31 Aug 1971.
